Straight answers about replacing a lock
How do I know which euro cylinder size I need?
Measure from the centre of the fixing screw hole to each end of the cylinder, in millimetres. Those two numbers are the size, for example 40/50. Or use our photo lock finder: take the cylinder out (one screw), photograph it on a sheet of A4 with a 10p resting on it, and we measure it for you.
How much does it cost to replace a lock cylinder?
Delivered to your door, a standard euro cylinder is about £12 and an anti-snap TS007 3-star cylinder £43 to £90 depending on brand. Fitted by a local locksmith, expect £79 to £150 in total. Prices are shown before you order.
What is a TS007 3-star anti-snap cylinder?
Lock snapping is the most common way uPVC and composite doors are broken into. A TS007 3-star cylinder is tested to resist snapping, drilling and picking, and is what most insurers and police Secured by Design guidance expect on an external door.
What lock does my insurer expect on a wooden front door?
Usually a 5-lever mortice deadlock or sashlock to BS3621. Look for the Kitemark on the faceplate. We stock BS3621 locks from Union, ERA, Legge and Yale with next-day delivery.
Can I fit a lock myself?
A euro cylinder is held by one screw and takes about ten minutes. A mortice lock is a bigger job but a like-for-like swap is well within reach of a confident DIYer, and our guides show every step. If you'd rather not, we connect you with a vetted local locksmith.
